Low energy on a workout day: don’t skip it, shift it!
It happens to everyone: some days the energy just isn’t there. That’s okay. Respecting your body is part of training, not a detour from it.
So when a client shows up and really isn’t feeling it, we don’t skip the session. We shift the emphasis. Easier days matter: we practise technique, work on mobility and keep the blood flowing. It’s also when we make time for things that get squeezed out on heavy lifting days, like hand-eye coordination (neuromotor training). Most important, we keep the habit of showing up, keep the skills sharp and have some fun!
As the energy ramps back up, we add a little peak intensity, like a weight closer to your max on one of the lifts, and build back toward full sessions.
That’s not failure. It’s the natural rhythm of training, and it’s what makes it sustainable. Even in carefully run exercise studies, a quarter to half of participants can drop out. Stopping happens. Researchers say you lose fitness more slowly than most people expect, especially if you keep moving (Medscape).
What matters is easing back in instead of starting over.
